Medium-wall and thick-wall heat-shrink tubing
30 June 2025

Heat-shrink tubing differs in various properties – one essential criterion is the wall thickness. Depending on the application, thin-, medium- or thick-wall variants are used.
What is medium-wall heat-shrink tubing?
Medium-wall heat-shrink tubing has wall thicknesses of approx. 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm after shrinking. It is made of high-quality polyolefin and is optionally available with hot-melt adhesive. Due to its greater wall thickness, it is particularly suitable for applications with increased mechanical stress. Medium-wall heat-shrink tubing is available from BIT up to a diameter of 410 mm.
- BPMW – medium-wall heat-shrink tubing made of polyolefin
- BPMW A – with adhesive coating
- BPMW M – with mastic coating
What is thick-wall heat-shrink tubing?
With a wall thickness of approx. 3.0 mm to 5.0 mm after shrinking, thick-wall heat-shrink tubing is the most robust variant. It offers excellent mechanical protection but is less flexible than thin-wall tubing. It is ideal for outdoor applications or under high stress.
- BPTW – thick-wall heat-shrink tubing made of polyolefin
- BPTW A – with adhesive coating
- BPHW A – with adhesive and 6:1 shrink ratio
Applications
- Cable connections in mechanical and plant engineering
- Automotive and shipbuilding
- Outdoor applications with increased environmental stress
- Electrical insulation and sealing
